Born Again - Rebirth

 JOHN 3

Read John 3:1-21

Spiritual Rebirth 3:1-12

Spiritual rebirth is necessary to enter God's Kingdom. Being born again is the easy part. The challenge comes as we grow up and must choose to submit our wills to the control of God's Spirit. As we do this, we grow up spiritually and are transformed by God in the process. Transformation is not attained by trying harder to be good person. It is the result of growing in the Grace of God that is given to us as we continually surrender our lives to Him It is the result of the cleansing work of the Holy Spirit that takes place as we yield our will to his over the course of our lives.

REGENERATION

In John 3:1-8 Jesus discussed a foundational doctrine of the Christian faith: Spiritual Birth, or regeneration. The following are important facts concerning the new birth:

  1. Regeneration is a re-creating of spiritual life in the human heart by God the Holy Spirit. (Romans 2:12). Though this process eternal life from God himself is imparted to the believers heart (John 3:16) and he or she becomes a child of God (Galatians 3:26). He or she no longer conforms to this world but is now "created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness" (Ephesians 4:24).
  2. Regeneration (by God the Holy Spirit) is necessary because all people, prior to turning to Christ, are in their nature sinners who are spiritually dead, and who are incapable of -obeying and pleasing God (Romans 8 :7-8).
  3. Regeneration comes to those who repent of sin, turn to God and put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for their salvation (Matthew 3:2).
  4. Regeneration involves a transition from an old sinful life to new life of loving obedience to Jesus Christ. Those who are truly born again are set free from sin's bondage and receive a spiritual desire to love God and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9-14).
  5. Those born of God cannot make sin a habitual practice. As a believer, ones desires are changed so as to love God sincerely and try from the heart to please God and avoid evil (1 John 1:5-7). This is accomplished only through the Grace given to believers by Christ (1 John 2:3-11), through a sustained relationship with Christ (John 15:4) and through a dependence on the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:2-14).
  6. Those who continue living in immorality and giving themselves to the world's lifestyle (in todays world this is very hard with our culture of doing whatever makes you happy), no matter what they say with their lips, shows that they are still unregenerate children of this world (Satan) (1 John 3:4-10).
  7. Just as one can be born of the Spirit be receiving the life of God, he or she can choose to break relationship with Christ and thereby die spiritually because of intentional ungodly choices and unrighteous living. If you live according to the sinful nature, you will die (Romans 8:13). Thus, sin and the refusal to follow the Holy Spirit extinguish the life of God in the believer's soul and cause spiritual death and exclusion from God's kingdom ( Matthew 12:31-32).
  8. The new birth is not the same as physical birth, because God's relationship with the believer is matter of spirit rather than the flesh (John3:6). Therefore, while the physical tie of parents and child can never be undone, the Father and child relationship that God desires with is voluntary. That relationship remains conditional and based on our faith in Christ throughout our earthly lives, a faith demonstrated by lives of sincere love and obedience (Romans 8:12-14, 2 Timothy 2:12).

Bible Verse

"And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules" Ezekiel 36:26-27

Prayer

Lord our God, may our lives be awakened, for you send your Spirit to blow through heaven and earth and you stir everything to life. May we long for your Spirit’s prompting. Grant that we not be overpowered by evil and sin. May we be born anew to be fighters for the highest good on earth, which leads into heaven. Hear the prayers of all people far and near who are sighing for the Savior. We pray for them all as we pray for ourselves, and you will hear our prayer. You will send power to lift up their hearts and souls so that there may be a great number of your joyful people on earth. In spite of all the misfortune, adversity, and danger in the world, there will be a people testifying from one end of the earth to the other, a people trusting in you and sure of victory through the great grace you give in answer to our prayers. In Jesus name, Amen.
