The Light of the World

 JOHN 3: 16-21

Bible Verse

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Openness to God's Light

Seeing the truth is dependent on our to God's light. God offers us all the ight we need, but there are may be aspects of the truth we would rather not see, some areas of our lives we would rather not open to God's light. We may want to hide our areas of shame, areas of compromise that we know will look different under God's light, or areas where we hide the secret sins we aren't ready to give up. Darkness is great for hiding, but we need  the Light (Jesus) to see the truth.

We cannot fully see the truth unless we open our lives to God's light. But we can do this without fear because God has already offered to forgive us for anything we may be hiding in the shadows. Jesus Christ is the Light of the World. His Light removes all the darkness in our souls.

Prayer

Lord our God, our light and our life, in our longing to live by your Word we lift our eyes to you. Let your Word come into our hearts. Let your Word help us to understand our lives and our time, so that we can recognize your leading in everything and gather courage every day in spite of our weakness, sins, and faults. We can still find joy, for your kingdom is coming. We can feel that you are among us, however great the anguish of these times. Let the light of Jesus Christ shine out; let your Spirit of peace and grace come to all nations so that your will may be done. Free people from all their confusion. Release them from their bondage. Make them free for what is good, true, and eternal. May your name be praised among us today and forevermore. In Jesus name, Amen.
